How To: Jetson Bolt Pro 19+ MPH Speed Hack, Under $20!

The Jetson Bolt Pro is one of the most capable electric bikes at 300 dollars. It is well-made, portable, lightweight, and includes a powerful 350W motor. If you are thinking about purchasing a Jetson Bolt Pro or want to know if you made a good purchase, be sure to check out my video reviewing all of the features of the Bolt Pro and how to fix common issues. This video is linked below:

The Jetson Bolt Pro has a maximum speed of 15.5 miles per hour out of the box. Although this is still quite a good speed, many people have been unsatisfied and have performed many modifications to increase the speed and power. Some people have resorted to paying hundreds of dollars for new motors or motor controllers, but there is a little-known hack that lets the bike go up to 20 miles per hour, and it does not require buying any new components for the bicycle.

After looking into the code of the Jetson Bolt Pro, it turns out that the max speed is capped merely through software, so after reprogramming the bicycle, it can easily go 19-20 miles per hour on flat terrain, without pedal power.

The great thing about this hack is that once the speed modifier is done, there are no extra parts in the bike, and it can be returned to factory settings at any time.

After popular demand from my viewers, I will go over how to perform this hack.

For this speed modification, you will need an Arduino board, three breadboard wires, and an extension cable for the battery. There is no need to spend extra money on a name board Arduino board, as this Elegoo one will work just as well.

Once you have the Arduino board, the first thing you will need to do is open the bicycle. To open the bike:

  1. Go to the right side of the Bolt Pro and notice the rubber stoppers covering the screw holes.

  2. Using a pin or similarly shaped object, remove all of these rubber stoppers.

  3. Keep all of these small components in a good spot, as they are effortless to lose.

It is also important to note that these rubber stoppers are not identical; in other words, you need to remember which location each rubber stopper comes from. Although they may look similar, around half of the plugs are in a different shape.

Once the stoppers are removed, you can remove all of the screws. Then the side plate of the bike should come off quite easily.

You will then want to locate four empty pins. These pins were initially meant for a Bluetooth module, as this is the same motor controller as other Jetson models that can connect to smartphones. Unlike other hacks, you will not need to purchase two bikes to pull this hack off.

This hack essentially uses an Arduino board to emulate the functions of a Bluetooth module, meaning that we can bypass needing to get a jailbroken version of the Jetson app to change the speed.

Search up Arduino create and set it up on your computer as follows. You will need to install the client on your computer to talk to the board. You will then need to load the code onto your Arduino board, so get your computer and included wire ready. Then, you can download the code from the link in the description of this video and upload it to the board as follows.

I would recommend watching my tutorial video for an in-depth tutorial on how to install the code onto your board: Link Coming Soon

Once you are done loading the code, you will need to load the code to the bicycle.

With your three breadboard wires, you will need to locate the Black, Gray, and Orange wire. Make sure to match these up as follows. The cables are just left open, so you do not need to cut any wires. You are probably looking on the wrong wire if you think you need to.

Before plugging anything in, disconnect the battery from the Jetson Bolt for safety purposes.

The Black wire will connect to the GND pin on the Arduino, the Grey will connect to the Digital 3 Pin, and the Orange will connect to the 5V. Make sure all of the connections are correct, as this is crucial.

  • GND to BLACK Wire

  • DIGITAL 3 to GREY Wire

  • 5V to ORANGE Wire

Then, plug in the battery, and turn on the bicycle.

The headlight will flash twice, indicating that the speed has been modified. If you want, you can press the reset button on the Arduino board one more time before disconnecting everything to make sure the code is fully loaded.

To finish it up, turn off the Jetson Bolt, unplug your Arduino board, and close the Bolt Pro just the way you opened it. Screw all of the screws in, put the rubber stoppers, and complete the hack.

As I mentioned before, I did another modification that allowed me to remove the battery from the bike. Although this is pretty self-explanatory, I can also make a tutorial for how to do this if you guys request it, so leave a comment if you would like to see that video/blog tutorial.

I have a 3/2021 JBP and the speed hack only got me to 15.5mph. So with that said...

  1. What month and year is your JBP?

  2. How much do you weigh?

Thank you!

The speedhack.ino file is much larger than the one in the video? Also there is no target area to edit the speed?? Is the download ino file been changed?

If I uploaded the code to the board twice, once I copied it and pasted to Arduino and uploaded to board then I uploaded the jetson .ino file to Arduino then uploaded to the board. Both time lights flashed on the board... but now if I plug that board into the bike will it mess anything up?

Hi tony,

i am getting a similar result to other posters about max speed not being able to go above 15.5mph with the newer model Jetson bolt pro. any idea if there is another memory location in the code defining this as the max speed that can be over written?
